Hope you all had a great week. The past week has been full of some exciting things. My cousin, Casey, had a baby (a girl! Lilly) last week, and I get to meet her tomorrow! Our friends Joey and Natalie also had a baby girl, Simonne, this week and she's a doll.
Aside from baby news, I have completed my third week of half-marathon training with my friend Stephanie, and we're still going
Today is an important day here in SC. If you've been under a rock the past couple of weeks, there was a tragic shooting in Charleston last month, and since then a lot of people have been pushing to remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds.
It was removed from the capitol's dome about 15 years ago, and moved to a flag pole on the grounds. Yesterday, the bill was signed into law by Governor Haley, and the flag is being removed today and moved to the relic room at the State Museum. Working across from the State House means we will get to see a lot of excitement - crowds, news cameras, cheering, probably protests, and the historic moment itself. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, there is no denying that it's a big moment in history.
Here is a picture I snapped at a stoplight the other day of protests from both sides. I posted it to my Instagram - do you follow me?
Finally, I'm thrilled to share with you that my friend Devra from The Pomeroy Life has started up a brand new site called Dietician in the Making!
As the name suggests, Devra is going to school to become a dietician, and is going to use her training and knowledge as she goes to help out others. Menu planning, shopping lists...even grocery delivery for those of you who live near her in KY! (I have asked if she would consider expanding her delivery area to SC - so far, no luck). ;)
Head over to the site and join her Launch List so that you can receive a special discount when her services go live. While you're at it, go "like" the Facebook page, too!
ALSO - last but not least, I have a new Sunshine Sponsor, Danielle Marie! You don't want to miss all of the exciting things she has going on. Go check her out!
You can also find her on:
Have a great weekend!
Until next time - -
Ah! Thank you so much! Your support and encouragement through this process has meant so much!
ReplyDeleteAnd speaking of babies, we are finding out what Will's Brother and Sister-in-Law are having tonight!
You are so welcome! I can't wait to watch it take off :) Please share the news when you find out!
DeleteThis is why I love reading blogs from other parts of the country--it's like real life, authentic news from someone who actually lives there. It's so cool you work across the street from the capital building!! I work downtown, and pass Philadelphia's city hall each day, but it's not the same as having a view of it all day :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, there is usually something interesting to see! (protests, gatherings, non-profit events, etc.). I love Philly - my college roommate is from Chalfont!
DeleteIt must be so interesting (and at times nerve-wracking, I'm sure) to work near the SC State House during such a historic and pivotal time. Has the confederate flag frenzy died down yet?
ReplyDeleteInteresting is a great word for it! Sadly, it's causing a lot of unwanted media attention. The frenzy has died down except among members of the KKK and Black Panther's associated group this weekend. We were asked by many state and local politicians to stay away and ignore them, but of course many people came from out of state to witness the clash. So embarrassing, and so unnecessary. The majority of the people here (not portrayed, obviously) just want it to go away!
