Recipe: A Yummy Christmas Treat

One of the treats like I love to make (and eat) at Christmas is Puppy Chow (aka "trash" by the Lewis clan). I can inhale it by the handful, and pretty much never get sick of it! And bonus, if you haven't make it before (where have you been?), it is so easy.

Ingredients:

  • 9 cups of any flavor Chex cereal (or combine multiple flavors)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

  • In a large bowl, pour and set aside the 9 cups of cereal.
  • In a microwavable bowl, combine peanut butter, chocolate chips, and butter and microwave on high, uncovered, for 1 minute.
  • Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir. If needed, melt for another 30 seconds and stir again. The mixture should be smooth.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour the mixture over the cereal and (carefully!) stir until all of the cereal is coated. I recommend using a flat, rubber spatula and gently folding the cereal until covered. Try not to crush the pieces!
  • Pour half of the coated cereal in a resealable gallon sized bag, and the other half in another bag.
  • Add the powdered sugar into the bags (half in one and half in the other), and seal well!
  • Here comes the fun part - shake, shake, shake the bags!

  • Once it's all coated, you're done! Grab a handful (try not to cover face and clothes in powdered sugar) and enjoy!!
